Late January in Fernie…..

January 30, 2011

I managed to escape work in late January so I could spend some time showing some friends around Fernie. The regular ski touring crew of Trev and Will were joined by a few others (including Monster of course) as we filled up the house. The beer and wine flowed, the food was good and while conditions could have been better (super warm down low) we all had a great time.

I managed to get out for some good touring (posts coming soon) and also spent some fun time showing my intermediate skiing guests around the hill. Here are some general photos from the week…..

Labrador from 35000ft….                                                    Legend of the Black Horse….

Evening light from the deck…

Front Ranges of the Lizard…

Monster hits the toboggan run….

White Pass and Polar Peak…

Beautiful Photos! you should definitely enter some in our photos comp – unless you don’t need a new set of touring skis and bindings or like Cat skiing???
    check it out:

Always wanted to spend some time around Fernie ski touring but there is no info on the area, how did you find out where to go? The Rockies are stunning and even better with a snow pack!

If you have any Route info in the Fernie area you want to share let us know we are lacking any info for that part of BC.

Easiest way to find out where to go in Fernie is to head out there! There is lots of great ski touring terrain directly off the ski hill and you can always pick up a topo map for places like Harvey’s Pass and Tunnel Creek. The people are extremely friendly. I’ve been thinking about creating a Fernie backcountry resource page on this site but I’m still in need of some landmark names and more photos.
